    AR upper question

Ok so I've decided to go ahead and jump into building myself an AR. I'm going to use a Stag lower and I was looking at the Stag 3H upper. I'm going to use a monsterman grip and I was concerned about the flash suppressor on the Stag upper. I want to make sure that I am able to remove the flash suppressor on the upper and replace it with a muzzle brake. I read that most flash suppressors can be removed but also some can be permanently attached, I just want to make sure I'm making the correct decision to make the build CA compliant.

You are correct in that if you have a MonsterMan grip you cannot have a flash hider (or telestock or pistol grip or forward pistol grip, etc. etc.)

If you're a noob, ask if your vendor can do it and replace it with a muzzle brake or Schurter thread protector.

If the bbl itself is under 16" long, that means the flash hider or whatever other muzzle device is on there is pinned/welded to be 'permanent' by BATF specs and render it to mandated min. 16" barrel length: (1) you don't wanna remove it for legal reasons and (2) it's a bitch.

With the Stag 3h upper you should be fine as it's a 16" barrel. BTW taking off the flash hider is not too hard to do yourself with the right tools. But as BWiese said if you feel uncomfortable doing that you can have them take it off for you.

When you get the upper, just put the upper tightly in between your knees and feet with the barrel pointed up, take a wrench and twist off the flash suppressor. It isn't that hard.

Some muzzle brakes are VERY LOUD. Ask around for a good one to get. I recommend the Schuster Thread Protector. They just hand tighten on. You don't have to worry about some LEO who cant tell a brake from a suppressor.
