Based on all my experiences, I would choose the Spikes. The quality is there in spades, and they even coat everything in melonite for corrosion resistance, should you choose to run surplus 5.45 through it.

I have a S&W and very happy with it! Be sure to get a heavy hammer spring with it.

They don't ship the S&W to CA.

            Figures, oh well.

How about magazines? I know that's the major issue and it can be hard to find the ASC mags in stock. Also, are there block kits to make 10/30 rounders?

Just get one that has anti corrosion coatings. They are dirty as all hell. Mine has literally rusted shut in an afternoon. Shoots loose though :-)

Doesn't S&W have anti corrosion coating?

I have a S&W and I love it. The barrel is chome-lined so shooting surplus or cheap ammo is not an issue. It also comes with a heavy trigger spring so you won't have problems shooting cheap ammo with hard primers.

they wont ship the first one to CA because it comes with a +10rd magazine

The second one is nice, but pricier because it's a piston system, also you'd need to buy your own sights...not a huge deal, but something to think about. Piston would be nice with dirty surplus ammo...

The third one is a great option, but almost as much as the piston system.

If i had to choose, i'd pick #2. If #1 was an option, then i'd say save the money, but since they wont ship it to CA, and the Spikes is nearly the same price as the Adams Arms piston system...might as well go piston since you'll probably only shoot dirty surplus ammo.

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

I've read that there isn't much benefit to the piston system even with the "dirty" surplus ammo. Adams Arms just loves pistons.

Spike's is sexy and has all the right coatings and such to resist corrosion anyway. Just can't get over the magazine issue. Actually found some 10/30 rounders but at $29.99 it starts killing the budget idea of this setup.
