    Cali FAL pricing

I just came back from one of my local gun shops. They had a Cali compliant FAL. With the dust cover cut out for top loading the magazine. I think it was a DSA. Didn't check.. They were asking $1650.00. I thought one could be had for $899 from one of our vendors.

What am I missing (other than 'standard' markup)? Could it be a different brand?

Missing everything, The differences is between a FAL built on surplus 89 dollar kits and one built on DSA/Imbel receivers, with all new parts factory rifles. Both will shoot. I prefer the later since the real fals are banned by name in PRK

    Added later

I just saw the ad from enterprise, Its a early christmas special deal , if you want one you better buy one since christmas comes only once a year.

I think a fellow who knows his FALs can spot a good deal and get a fine gun for $800.00 - $900.00. I ain't one of them, so I bought a DSA carbine and spent "just a touch" more than the above. I think the prices you see in CA may be a bit higher than the rest of the country, but there are a few things the company muct do to make the FAL CA compliant.

Aside from quality, I wanted to ensure that if the thing didn't function properly I could go to one company and hold them accountable. That hasn't happened - I'm happy as heck with mine.

Thisismyboomstick has an IMBEL on Century right now in the marketplace for 750. That is where I would go. The newer century uppers are fine IMO. Assembling one is a lot easier than the earlier Century's.

There are FAL's and there are FAL's. Ca Models have a CA complaint mark up, generally about or less than 150 for the extra work and special parts as you mentioned (upper cover). Im almost sure that it was a DSA SA 58 that you were looking at, if it was a special model such as a para or a carbine you have more special parts bolt carrier, cover and a folding stock (CA might be fixed depending on the model). Add the goofy tacticool stuff like 20 feet of rails, FWD pistol ect more money. Have to see what model you were looking. at. But the wise unless they are getting out of FAL's know what the price of receivers are going for, no importation of receivers means the days of 200 USD consecutive serialed numbered Imbels will never return. Barrel supply is still good and the US parts will be available for sometime. As long as the us manufacturers build them Fal clones will be around. They are not AK's they cost a little more, but 90 countries cant be wrong.

The FN manufactured FAL'S that are legal in California are some of the most expensive.

But just like a Real HK rifle they are an acquired taste and not for everyone.

Which are those? I know you know your FALs so which are the FN ones to look for? I didn't know there were any FN made FALs off-list in CA. Do tell!!
