    Bolt Action .223's

I'm thinking about getting a bolt action .223 caliber rifle for shooting 100-200 yards target practice. I'm considering a savage axis w/ a nikon prostaff 4-12x. I figure that'll probably do the trick for a great price. Anyone have any experiences with these rifles or any alternative recommendations? Pics of your rifles would be awesome.

Take a look at the new Mossberg Bolt Gun in 223. It uses AR mags.

You can push a .223 bolt gun quite a bit farther than 200 yards depending on the ammo you use and what your barrel can stabilize. However, can't go wrong with Savage, their rifles are stupid precise.

.223 bolt rifles are just good, cheap fun/practice. Maybe also check out the Varmint line since it gives your a heavier contour barrel such as the 12 FV.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I have an AR, a bunch of mags and tons of 5.56 NATO..

I picked up a Remington Tactical in .223. Not bad for the price. Have a B&C stock on it with a Timney trigger. Spent a little bit on the scope and mounts though- SWFA SS 5-20x with Seekins rings and base.

Look for something with 1-9 factory to shoot the heavier loads. Sometimes they will shoot the 75gr AMAX. Sps T, Savages...... all good choices.

If you're not gong to hunt with it, get something with a heavy barrel. The barrel on a hunting rifle heats up too fast and groups start to open up. Unless you switch off with other rifles to let it cool. I got the Savage 10fcp-k in .223. Slick as snot that rifle is.

tikka t3 lite in .223 is a 1/8 twist i believe, a little more than the axis though. worth looking at. good luck

I got my gf a savage axis .223 and I really love this rifle, If I knew that this rifle was out I would of got it before my Remington 770 deer rifle. The bolt is silky smooth on the axis shoots great I just took of the bushnell 3x9 off of it and put a BSA sweet .223 on it havent got the chance to shoot it yet, the scope has bdc up to 400 yrds but I dnt know about shooting that far . You wouldn't regret the savage axis especially for the price and wait for big5 when it goes on sale lol

I'm thinking the Rem 700 in 223 will be one of my next purchases just due to the life of the barrel and the cost to shoot it in comparison. Also be a great rifle to teach my nephews to shoot with.

Mossberg is more expensive than Savage and has no optics. My 30-06 Savage is very accurate. Review on Mossberg I read said they shot 1/2 MOA groups at 200-yds. Don't think you can go wrong with either. That the Mossberg takes AR mags could be a plus if you have them laying around or want extras.
