I finally got my Remington 700 action

I finally picked up the Remington 700 action I needed to build my Match Rifle gun (using the Eliseo R5 kit).

Remington 700 ADL Youth model in .243 Winchester for only $310 shipped. It's got the Remington ISS / "J-Lock", but it's not an issue since I can easily replace the shroud with an aftermarket to remove it.

I'm going to try and remove the barrel sometime so I can sell off the barrel with sights, stock, and trigger and recoup a few bucks.

Now that Step 1 in my High Power Match Rifle build is complete, I need to figure out what Step 2 will be. I'm not sure if I should get the R5 kit next so I can get the custom recoil lug that comes with it which will be needed what I rebarrel. I may get the barrel next, prior to the R5 kit since I'll most likely order direct from Krieger (or maybe a Hart or Broughton), and provide that to the gunsmith to install and chamber.

Whatever "Step 2" is, it will definitely cost more than I paid to finish "Step 1".

Looks good. I'd like to see how the kit works when its all done. The write-up on 6mmbr looks promising.

Get the barrel. Depending on lead time, getting a 6BR (or 6BR variant) might have a bit of a long lead time. That said, barrels aren't that expensive (compared to everything else).

As much as Gary says you don't need to get the action trued, it's still not a bad idea.

Getting the barrel will have little lead time. I'm most likely going to order a Krieger blank, 6mm 4-grove. Whatever barrel I get won't be pre-chambered by the manufacturer. I want the gunsmith installing it to cut the chamber.

yeah yeah that's all cool, but after checking out that article (and the associated pictures) the real important question is: what color is your space rifle going to be?

I have all the 700 tools now if you want to come over and break it down tomorrow.
If you have a line on more of those guns for $310, please let me know where they are.
