Detachable AR carry handles, what's the deal?

I see detachable carry handles sell from $39 all the way to $249.99. Anybody have any practical reason why the cheaper end ones are no good??

I got a cheap one in a package deal and it was comprised of inferior components. Rear sight parts would rattle (even when brand new) like a boot camp m-16. The slightest pressure turned the rear sight knob so holding a zero was difficult. You get what you pay for.

Crap materials, unreliable adjustments, poor durability...

You don't have to spend $250 to get a good one, but you should avoid the airsoft grade junk.

You can score quality used ones for reasonable prices. I got a colt on here for 50 or 60 bucks.

A cheap one came with my old upper and it got a huge dent somehow, I'm not rough on my guns and the paint wasnt even scratched so it didn't hit a rock or something. It must have dented when I was transporting it.

I think $80-140 seems like a fair price for a quality carry handle.

It probably had "tactical" in the name, pretty much as good as gold to some.

I'm thinking I'll pick up one of the "as new used cast offs" from one of the commercial sellers over at AR15.com. They sell Bushmaster and RRA ones for &80 shipped.

Now, one more silly question. I've built an old style A2 20" AR's and a varmint type flat top, Now i'm ordering a BCM 16", is there a big difference with the M4 length and Mid length gas systems??? Hope I'm not opening a can of worms.

The "M4" length gas system is called a carbine length, the general rule of thumb is the greater the distance between the gas port and the muzzle, the snappier the recoil. That's why some prefer to use a mid length gas system when using a 16" barrel, since this has the same felt recoil as using a rifle length system out of a 20" barrel.

I honestly don't know the brand, it was at a local shop here in Eureka that I actually do like. I couldn't stifle the laughter when the girl told me the price. at least the owner wasn't in so I didn't offend him. He's a good dude, his prices are a little steep but he gives me a fairly large discount for doing a lot of business with him.

Anybody know if the carry handles that Palmetto State Armory have for $65 are
                              good quality?
