I've been updating my gun collection and I decided to update (to my tastes) one of my Marlin Camp 9 Carbines. I own two that are NIB, with original wood stocks.
The issue is those wood stocks are rare and expensive. Finding replacements can be difficult. Once you ding up a wood stock it loses resale value. Face it, original boxes, paperwork, unblemished stocks are important in a rifles value.
These models are both 1996 models. I have plenty of plastic 'tacticool' rifles, including several RAWs like the AR-15, HK-91, MAC 10s (not a rifle), Uzi carbine, AKs..etc.. but who wants to carry one of these in the TRUNK while you drive around Southern California..?..not me. Too many legal problems.
I love a good lightweight wood stocked rifle. I enjoy my Remy 700s in .308 but I don't consider them handy enough for SHTF work when I'am traveling. For that, I want a handy carbine that can lay down some firepower using preban 20 round Magazines. Something lightweight, with a cheap but accurate RED DOT for my older eyes....heheh....
In my GHB I have a GLOCK 17 with extra ammo and accessories. 9MM in the right loading is a great round. Out of a 16 inch barrel the round can be hard hitting and accurate. Hence, the Camp 9 project.
These carbines are featureless already and can run SW model 59 series preban Magazines (or the normal magazines they came with).
Since I was a 59 series guy, I had several of these magazines in stock. I had to replace the springs (from WOLFF) and do some cleaning, but they all came back to life..!
What I didn't want to do is use the standard Marlin Camp 9 wood stock. I wanted something that would ride in the TRUNK (legally considered a locked container) and have the legal ability to run my 20, 15 and 10 round magazines.
In my search for a replacement wooden stock, I came across BOYDS gun stocks.
For $75 I bought a new unfinished stock; yes, it took about 3 hours of sanding to fit the rifle, and several coats of outdoor clear Poly...but she came out just fine.
Mounting a red-dot that I had already and with my legal 20 rounder, she's ready for TRUNK DUTY.
I will be sighting her in next week.
Here she is:

Post some photos of your TRUNK CARBINE..!
Take care, Bob
