Chrome lined vs. Chrome moly
Collapse

-
Chrome lined is a plating process. Chrome moly is an alloy from which bbls are made of as distinguished from a bbl made of stainless steel. A chrome moly bbl may also be chrome lined such as used on some military weapons.
A chrome lined bbl will generally have better resistance to corrosion and won't need to be cleaned as often. The down side is that they are generally not as accurate as a barrel that is not chrome lined.NRA Life Benefactor Member

Having chrome lined barrel will help increase the life of barrel in adverse conditions and usage. Non-chrome lined barrels are slightly more accurate than chrome lined barrels and are used in competitive events. Do you have to have chrome lined? No, but depending on your intentions with the rifle, you need to decide that. Chrome lining the barrel and the chamber came from the Vietnam conflict, the intent was to add durability and reliability to the full auto M-16A1 rifles being used in the hot and moisture of the Southeast Asia jungle.Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
