These are 100% illegal in CA.

If you are uncomfortable with just me saying this, know that gun lawyer Jason Davis says the same thing.

This product is illegal even separate from gun, even without owning the gun. It is similar in end-result functionality to the prohibited "Hellfire" trigger devices.

The fact it's called a 'trigger activator' is absolutely irrelevant as to how it works and the fact that it's not even connected to the trigger - the fact that rate change facilitation occurs is good enough to convict.

This is NOT an 'evil feature' that can be overridden by a BulletButton.

      Don't be stupid..
      - don't possess one on a gun
      - don't possess one separately from a gun
      - don't handle someone's gun that has it
      - don't let someone with one (on or off his gun) enter your house or ride in your car with it

In new numbering, a 'multiburst trigger activator' is defined in PC 16930
        16930.
As used in this part, a “multiburst trigger activator” means either of the following:

        (a) A device designed or redesigned to be attached to a semiautomatic firearm, which allows the firearm to discharge two or more shots in a burst by activating the device.

        (b) A manual or power-driven trigger activating device constructed and designed so that when attached to a semiautomatic firearm it increases the rate of fire of that firearm.
and the prohibition is now PC 32900
        32900.
Except as provided in Chapter 1 (commencing with Section 17700) of Division 2 of Title 2, any person in this state who manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives, lends, or possesses any multiburst trigger activator is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170.

See also this 2A forum thread

in which a DOJ spokesperson says these would be treated as 'multiburst trigger activators'.
