What does a properly staked reciever extension(buffer tube) on an AR pattern rifle look like? I know what it looks like on the bolt carrier group but not the reciever extension. Anyone have links to pics or descriptions?

He meant the castle nut.
Not sure that I've ever seen any as it's not exactly needed. Colts apparently staked their lower receivers, but having used issued M4 lowers I've never seen this. I'm sure it helps but not necessary and just a a pain when you want to remove the stock.Comment

8200rpm, Mike452,
Thanks guys, that's what I was looking for. So now I'm wondering how necessary is this? I'm curious because it's a selling point for a Noveseke semi-complete lower assembly:

Some people wouldn't consider it a fighting rifle without it staked. Staked castle nuts fall into the same category as staked carrier keys, magnetic particle inspected bolts and pinned gas blocks. If it's going to be dragged through the dirt and stepped on by your closest friends, it wouldn't hurt to have a staked castle nut.
For a range gun, if it comes loose just tighten it. No big deal.Comment
