Tikka Lite Stainless 300 Win Mag. For Hunting.

Folks, I just purchased a Tikka Lite Stainless Steel 300 Win Mag for first hunting purpose rifle.

Did I make a good choice for $770?

What power of scope should I get if I want to do hog, deer, elk, and whatever else that comes my way?

I have been reading that 2.5-10x good, or a 4-16x?

I was thinking of a good quality Vortex, another Leupold, Nikon, Zeiss?


Please let me know know.

This time I'm going with a Mildrian measurements for accuracy.

Check out the tikka thread from last night. There's a few pics of some hunting tikkas in there including mine. I have a 3-9x40 Leupy on mine with the TMR reticle and mil knobs. 3x is low enough for most hunting and I even checked my dope out to 1k at 9x in case a longer shot is in order. Seems to hold zero well too. I didn't want a 4-16 due to size mainly. Most 4-16s run a 44mm-50mm bell and I wanted something a little more light and compact for a hunter. Also the smaller objective allowed me to mount the scope as low as possible for cheek weld without needing a stock pack or riser. A 44 or 50 would have surely meant a riser was in store. 3-9x, 2.5-10, or 3-10x would all be good for most any hunting rifle.

+1 TIkka light is a little beat light for 300 win ,think muzzlebrake or limbsafer. Congrats Tikka is a great rifle

Tikka Ultralight in that caliber will kick.

My advise is to get a good scope that can take the recoil like a 3x9x40 Zeiss Conquest.

Then have the barrel threaded for 5/8 x 24 TPI, this is a $100 dollar job normally. Then any JP muzzle break or others will screw right on.

My Tikka Ultralight in 30-06 has a Vais Micro Muzzle break and 16.5in barrel (18.5in with break) Recoil is at least 100% less, but the JP is suppose to be alot better.

FYI: my groupings seemed to improve from 1in~2in to same hole grouping when I do my part. This happened when I went from stock barrel to 16.5in muzzle break one. Maybe it was the overall less recoil

A very good scope for your 300wm would be a Trijicon Accupoint scope.
