Well, its kind of a preference thing, but that Colt is on my list for sure. The best buy is the one you enjoy. Grab a hold of each if possible and see what you think :-)

Ever consider doing a build? You can customize a gun exactly like you want, you learn a ton, you have a lot of ownership in you gun, and not to mention its fun.

      Just a thought.

I have no opinion on the guns you listed other than my buddy has the Stag 8 and likes it.

Spike's Tactical makes an AWESOME rifle! I just purchased a stripped lower receiver for $130 at Guns Direct in Burbank ( great guys ) , and most likely will be going with Spikes accessories on the entire project. This will also be my first AR15 as well. Good luck with whatever you choose. If I were you, I would build it. Great way to see how the inner workings operate, and if something malfunctions you are better inclined as to how to repair it..

+1 on building your own. If your not very mechanically inclined (you don't really have to be) you could just get a complete upper and lower of your choice. Pin them on and your done. Its better than buying a complete one in my opinion.

i just got a spikes mid-length going to shoot it in the morning but if you search online you can get a complete upper for 480, a lower for 99, lower parts kit for 80, and whatever stock you want that i dont have a price for. but all the parts were spikes. then you got all the extras but again thats all on you

I say the colt is the best out of the three you listed. Just make sure you get the CA version.

Yeah with all the 3 you mention my only experience is with the Stag and its awsome, that being said, I'm also with the guys here that building your own is a wonderfull experience since building one is as fun as actually shooting one and you will have the pleasure of having intimate knowledge on how your rifle works.

Colt...Because guys here love to build but when you leave out of state it is buying what you can and a Colt says a lot more after you leave this state than a frankenAR.

I would narrow it down between the Stag and the Colt. I have the Stag M8 and it's friggin awesome! It's has very low maintenance, ate up all ammo i put through it, and accurate. Plus stags warranty is awesome. Also, get the "plus package" if you choose Stag.
My only experience with the Colt is my issued M4 in the Army and it served me well. The civilian version is made to the same specs so you kniw its gonna be awesome. Its a tough choice but I don't think you can go wrong with any of these two.

Interesting...you have 3 different rifles and price points. Good luck to you and enjoy, once you figure how you want to implement your rig.

California, where all of the good stuff is banned, registered, regulated or prohibited, yay.....

Law abiding firearm owners have no chance in this state.
