Help me choose a fun plinker toy

I want a older style, cowboy rifle for plinking at 100yd or so targets. I was looking at:
    *Winchester 94, 30-30, pre 1964
----Pluses are; AMERICAN made. Inexpensive at about $600. Piece of gun history and nice to own stuff made before I was born.

*Uberti copy of Winchester Lightening, .45 Colt
----Pluses are; Darn cool looking rifle. Brand new and very well made. Love the longer barrel, octo and all. Although, more pricey at $900.

Which would you think would be the more fun in the plinking department? Which round is easier to reload, 30-30 or the 45 Colt? Thank all!

The Winchester Lightening is pump action, isn't it?

Honestly I'd go for a .357mag lever action for those ranges due to the lower ammo cost (and .357 mag is easy to reload, not that the others aren't)

^This^, and recoil is more pleasant.

How about an old pump .22LR?

This one for sure. A 45 Colt or a 30-30 will thump you pretty hard.

Yes, it is. Check it out.

Good point on the .357. I shot a .357 Marlin lever for a day at Angeles and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the input.

I did also shoot a Winchester 62, pump .22lr. Very much fun. I just wanted a little more bang factor. Also, those darn things go for $600/$800 and they're pretty beat up for that much money! The .22s don't hold my attention very long but certainly a great "fun-gun" candidate.

That's whay I was entertaining the 45 Colt. With a 24" Octogon barrel, the bang factor may be more manageable. Anyboby ever fire one of these?

Per my above post....do you think a 24" octogon barrel, being a bit heavier out front and all, would be more shootable?

I have the Taurus version of the Colt Lightning with a 24" round barrel in .45 Colt. The recoil between a .45 Colt and a .30-30 are signifantly different, the .45 has less recoil. I reload for mine with Trailboss powder and keep velocities on the lower end for even less recoil. This is a long and moderately heavy firearm which lessens felt recoil.

If I could find a cheap one, I'd go for a Winchester M1895 chambered in 7.62x54r. Its history, its a monster of a caliber in a freaky cheap bullet. Oh and its made by Winchester in America for the Russians. Nothing like weapons that fueled a revolution to make you feel proud to be American.

I once had a Rossi/Puma M92 lever action in stainless steel with the 24" octagonal barrel. Really sweet shooter and very pleasant recoil. In fact, I think the recoil was gentler than just about any non-.22 gun I've ever owned.
