I guess you dont feel that your opinion (if you have one) or knowledge of a given subject (if you have any) is valued by others.
To the OP: Also research head spacing to get some further understanding. As said before, its safe to shoot .223 in a 5.56 chamber but not necessarily the other way around (well, you can get away with it but its not advised). Most ARs are chambered for 5.56 so you will be fine using either cartridge. Watch out for some specific predator hunting guns though that are chambered for .223. A Wylde chamber is a good way to go as mentioned earlier.Last edited by TwoAsoapbox; 01-10-2012, 12:16 PM."The pen is mightier than the sword....until someone tries to take your pen away." -RSComment

Yes, we were all newbies at one point. I myself just got into firearms not even half a year ago. I also had this same exact question the OP posted, but instead of posting a new thread did a quick search on google.
It's understandable if certain topics aren't discussed much but this particular question is asked ALL THE TIME.Comment

Why have a search function?

Nobody is talking **** here, hell I even searched it for you!
Word of advice, checking for answers on google will always be faster than posting the question on a forum waiting for people to reply. More often than not your question has been asked before.

The 5.56 has increased pressure load, and is loaded to military specifications.
The .223 is a civilian cartridge, for small and medium game hunting, and bigger (depending on bullet and cartridge type). 223 ammo will fire in 5.56 firearms, but 5.56 should not be fired in .223 only firearms, otherwise you risk a kB! or worse. In Glock We Trust.
