What are the lasers called that mount on top of the Ar rail. They look flat and they usually mount on m4 style ars. I usually see them on LEO or military set ups.

What are the benefits of these vs regular lasers?

youre probably thinking of the PEQ-15, its an IR laser so its only visible while looking through night vision. Very expensive.

The point of the PEQ-15 (and other PEQ models) is to provide an aiming point when using nightvision gear. It's nearly impossible to look down a weapon's sights while wearing NV optics, so the infrared laser serves as the point of aim. This can also be used to "designate" or mark targets, but this is a secondary use.

Many PEQ modules also include an IR flashlight, visible laser, and (in the case of the Marine version) a white light flashlight.

lasers are pretty expensive, but the ability it gives you to engage targets at night is a force multiplier for sure. If I had the ability I'd have IR lasers on all of my builds.
