If I mount a Magpul MBUS to my railed gas block, is it likely to melt? Should I just spend the extra $ and get a metal Troy flip-up?

I have heard several reports of them melting, but I have never seen an actual picture of it.

As for getting a better sight, what do you plan on doing with the rifle? Is it going to be your primary means of self defense? Or is it mostly for killing nasty paper targets? How likely are you going to be to actually used the sights? Often? Occasionally? Almost never? If you are likely to need and use them, spend the extra money and get better sights. Even the relatively less expensive YHM sights will give you decades of service. Or go all out and get the Troys, or any other flavor that amuses you. If you are never going to use them, and are unlikely to ever have to rely on them for more than plinking, go with the MBUS. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of the MBUS, and have several of them set up on range and plinking guns. Even on a few target and hunting guns. But anything that is likely to get used in the real world against anything bigger than a coyote gets real sights.

He's talking about the plastic Magpul sight melting on the gas block.. One person on here did say that they had to move the Mbus back on the rail so it wouldn't melt from the heat on the block so it probably will with enough mag dumps..

MBUS instructions specifically state that they are not compatible with railed gas blocks.

Is your gas block even on the same plane/rail height as the rear? I wouldn't put a MBUS on the gas block simply for the fact that I know plastic melts at a relatively low temperature compared to aluminum. That and magpul says not to.

You have to wrap it in aluminum foil first. This also prevents your rifle from receiving secret government broadcasts and spying on you.
