    Brake Cleaner and BDM's 22lr

CAUTION: Do not spray Brake Cleaner on these mags.

While I was cleaning the rifle, I decided to spray a little brake cleaner on the mag to get some of the powder residue off. BIG MISTAKE!! looks like the plastic didn't like the chemicals in the brake cleaner. Nothing else got damaged nor the mag(thank God). i took it out again today (to test it), and it still ran flawlessly with about 300 rounds.

anyway just giving you guys a heads up!!

this is what the mag looks like now......

The follower took the chemicals like a man.... no damage was done to the follower only the body.

Thanks for the heads up. I think that I will contact BDM to see what they recommend for cleaning solvents.

You shouldn't use brake cleaner on any plastics. Even if you use non-chlorinated, there's a good chance the brake cleaner will eat plastic.

Well I sent off an email to BDM after reading this post and received an answer rather quickly. BDM recommends good old hot soapy water, just remember to remove the screws and spring.

brake clean will discolor or eat most plastics, it usualt gives the plastic a hazy or frosted color.

Soap and water it is...glad the mag still works though. I should not assume all firearms plastic parts are made of ultra high molecular weight (UHMW) plastics.

                    +1

If you want an aerosol cleaner that won't destroy plastics, try electrical contact cleaner.

Depends on the plastic. I've had acrylic fog and crack all over the place from electrical contact cleaner (much like the OPs BDM mag).
