    Federal Excise Tax??

I saw this on Palmetto States webpage.

Due to Federal law, if you order an AR15 lower and AR15 parts, we will have to add an additional 11% Federal Excise Tax to the purchase price of the AR15 lower and AR15 parts. This amount will not be reflected in your shopping cart or on your invoice, but will be added when your order is processed.

    This something new??

I think all you need to do is divide the orders up.

I think you are referring to the 11% federal excise tax for the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act (Pittman-Robertson Act). No it isn't new; It was passed in 1937. The tax uses the funds to create/preserve/restore wildlife habitats for sporting purposes. If you ever get a CA hunting license, it is one of the questions on the test

I Dont have a hunters license. When i saw that i was under the impression that all firearm and firearm parts now purchased will be taxed 11% more on top of std state tax etc. ..

          Merry Christmas to all!

Maybe it's just me but I have never seen the tax added on. I believe it is already factored into the base cost of the rifle beforehand

yes, if you buy a complete rifle, the tax is built into the cost of the rifle. but if you just buy a receiver, or a parts kit, the tax is not included in the cost of the components. So, if you buy ALL the components needed to assemble a rifle at one time, the FET is supposed to be collected.

In the past, you could price out a lower and a parts kit from Bushmaster for less than Bushmaster would sell the complete rifle. the difference in price was ~10%, which is basically the FET added to the cost of the components to make the complete rifle.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Ahh ok that makes sense. Never bought all the components from just one vendor all at the same time so that explains it.

Ohhh. Thanks! I thought some new tax was developed because California hates gun owners.

I just ordered two PSA lowers on one order and I will place another order for two LPK's and ammo from them. Two separate shipping costs but I still saved money. Defeated, go figure.
