"Middleman", or need thereof, clarification

Hi folks,

I'm still reading through as much of the forum stickies and compilations of info on this topic, but I haven't found a direct answer yet.

If I wanted to import a rifle that would require modifications to be fully California legal, an FS2000 in this case, what is the right process for this? Can I buy in the rifle in it's original state, and have it shipped directly to an FFL in California, where I will have the requisite parts installed? Or do the parts have to be installed before it crosses into California?

If the weapon requires a bullet button to be CA legal then it has to have a BB before it enters CA. If there are other parts that it needs to be CA legal then they have to be installed prior to coming to CA.
