    Suggested plate thickness?

Looking at some steel plate to buy to take with me out to the desert. the biggest calibers that will be there is are a .45 1911 and a .308 rem 700.

What would you suggest as the thickness of the plate i should buy? Would 1/4 inch be enough? or should i get it thinker?

    Thanks!

I have a 1/4" steel plate target and @ 100 yds, .223 is almost penetrating it. So either set it out further, get something thinker, or get AR500 steel which is harder.

    I think Wideners.com has some AR500.

AR500 is the stuff you want, and hang it so it can swing when hit, that reduces the impact on the steel.

AR500 at 1/2" if you want it to last a reasonable amount. Thicker is better though.
