    looking for my first scope

Ok what do you think I need to shoot 100-200 yards? Im kinda looking at the primary arms compact 3xscope. I heard good things about it and its a good price at 179. Do you think 3x is a stong scope for that range? It will be on a range gun and its my first AR15. thanks for the info

200 Yards you are going to need more, I have a PA x5 behind my EoTech and that does well hitting clay pigoens to 150 yards. But on my other upper I have a 9x Leopold and that can go well out past 200 yards.

I had a 1.5-5X and 200 yards, the steel plates at Angeles were really small. Hard to see.

I have a 2.5-10X now and it's much more fun shooting.

Yeah, 3x can be used at 200 yards. The problem is the clarity of that 3x scope. People seem to have this habit of over-estimating how much magnification they really need, when in reality they're compensating for crappy glass by having high magnification(someone in the optics forum suggested 24x for 100 yards... that's ridiculous).

I'm not saying that you can't go above 3x, obviously you can. But I'd take a crystal clear 2-7x over a blurry pos 24x any day of the week.

www.samplelist.com or www.swfa.com, you'll find a wide range of scopes, new and used (demo).

I can shoot steel plates out to 300yds with a 1x red dot but if I want precision with cloverleaf style groups I need at least 9 power at 100yds. Your choice on what you want out of the rifle. Thats why I have three ARs; long range, medium range and rimfire range.

Maybe this will be a good choice for you, same price as the PrimaryArms you are looking at. Use as red dot or up to 4 power as a scope too. Lifetime warranty.

yep, I bought a Nikon 6-18.5x40 from Midwayusa for $300 with the mildot reticle. it is great. you can use the mildots for range finding if you like.
