    Extractor in SU-16A???

What is the extractor in a SU-16A??
I keep reading people are having problems with it. What goes wrong with it?
Is there a link on how to replace it?
Where do I buy a new one?
Will Kel Tec replace it or should I get an aftermaket one?

ps. I have NO IDEA what the extractor is on a Kel Tec or any other rifle

well have you had any problems ejecting shells? if not no need to replace..if it aint broke don't fix it ..I've hear alot of people with problems, but I have yet to have one...the extractor is the mechanism that removes the spent shell from your rifle.

Keltec will send you a replacemnt - which from what I understand works just fine.

I replaced my extractor with a bushmaster... and have not had any problems since (FTE's).

The extractor is in the head of the bolt, just like on an AR15. In fact, the entire extractor assembly (extractor, spring, buffer and pin) is virtually identical to the AR design. The only difference is that KelTec seemed to use weaker springs and an extractor head that wasn't beveled as deeply as the one on most AR bolts.

Here are some pics I took a LONG time ago (when I had an SU16) to compare the assemblies (Sorry for the huge pics, but detail is needed here):

I had extraction issues that were related to shooting brass cased ammo in my SU after shooting Wolf. I replaced the extractor, spring and buffer, which improved the situation.

My first time out with my SU-16CA, I had about 30 FTE's out of 100 rounds. I replaced the extractor with a Bushmaster, polished the bottom of the bolt carrier, and replaced the charging handle with the original round one (Kel-Tec sent it for free). Now it is 100%, and a very fun and accurate little carbine. Check out KTOG.org, the Kel-Tec Owners website. All the info you need is there. Also, Kel-Tec has very good customer service, don't hesitate to call them if you need to.

SWAP THE KEL-TEC extractor with an AR extractor. Problem solved.
