    Remingtion 700 Suggestions

    Hello,

I bought a Remington 700 in .308 a few months back and have realized that I would like to put a different stock and convert it to a magazine fed system.

Any suggestions. I would like a vertical grip on the stock.

Let me know what you guys think.

    thanks

You want a VFG on a bolt action rifle? It's your money, but... why? You aren't doing CQB room clearing with it.

    Manners
    McMillan
    XLR
    KRG
    Boyd's
    H-S Precision
    AI
    Bell & Carlson

That's just a handful of companies who make a pretty wide variety of stocks. If you want to find a detachable magazine kit, "DBM" is what you're looking for(detachable bottom metal, detachable box magazine. same difference).

If you really want to, you can bolt a picatinny rail section onto the fore-end of just about any stock, so that's not really a big deal.

Bust out yer wallet. About $200 for a Bell and Carlson Tactical Medalist and the conversion for the detachable magazine can be purchased from Badger Ordnance for over $300. There's a guy on here that can get you the same type of conversion for about half the price......I think it was by JAG or something like that.

(I'm assuming the OP is talking about the vertical pistol grip, not fore grip).

      Good luck.

CDI precision makes a DBM kit for $209.

Of course you have to consider the magazine cost, typically they're going to be kits to use AICS mags. So you've got Accuracy International, C-Products(they're trash), and Alpha Industries for mags.

            B&C

i have the B&C medalist stock with the adjustable cheek and butt. this is a great and sturdy stock! i think i got mine around $350 on sale at stockystocks.com. next i plan on buying the whyatt magazine kit (drops right in) and the versa pod bipod (it fits right in th UIT rail on the rifle) because my harris does not like flat bottom rifles. A bolt knob convesion and trigger upgrade would be wise as well.

Thanks for all of the great advise.

I guess I should my rookie strips. Yes, I meant vertical pistol grip. I am liking that medalist. Now I have to convince Santa to bring me one.

If Santa doesn't bring one to me I figured I would be spending some dollars on one.

Again, thanks for the all of advise.

Choosing a stock and buying without trying wouldnt be my way about it. Would you buy a car without test driving it first? Not sure where you are located but I would head out to a local precicison rifle match near you to check out whats available. Most shooters are gear whores and more than happy to show you and maybe even get you behind the rifle to feels the differences.

That's definitely part of it, however some of the manufacturers I listed make fully adjustable stocks. Need a higher cheek piece, canted butt pad, and longer LOP? Pick one that has those options. Of course the people making a decision like that probably already have an idea of what they want(why they're looking for an aftermarket stock) in the first place.

True, but the first things that I would take into consideration for me as a rifle shooter are things like grip angle, forend design, buttstock design. Those factors impact how I shoot from different positions as well as the way you use the rear bag. Each stock changes these aspects. The adjustability you mentioned only refines those aspects.

It does, but like I said, someone looking for that adjustability probably already has an idea of what they want.

"I don't like this stock, I wish this was that way, and this other part was another way, hey that one matches what I want"

edit: By the way, that was an indirect message to the OP to figure out what he actually wants from a stock instead of just a VFG(I still don't get that, unless he means a pistol grip that's more vertical instead of at an angle?) that could be mounted on just about anything.

You might want to check out the alpha industries AICS mags, they're shorter(still 10 rounds), and cost less than the accuracy international mags.

Does that KRG bolt lift really work? I like their chassis, but that thing just seems like it'd be flimsy to me.
