    Light weight AR

Been wanting to build a Keep it Simple, relatively inexpensive, light weight AR.

I'm looking for suggested vendors who carry a value priced 16" complete upper with Magpul MOE hand guard without a fixed front sight. Its been a year or more since I bought parts for my last one, and I know vendors/sources change all the time.

I'll get the lower at my local Ammo Brothers. Everything else, I'll source through the interweb.

Gun will be used for plinking at the range, trunk gun, and for a carbine class I have in a few months.

    Any suggestions?

I would look into a 14.5" carbine if you want something light.

Palmetto state has great prices. BCM has a good lightweight 14.5" upper.

Bravo Company USA, Inc is your source for the highest quality parts, & tactical accessories for your AR-15, M16, M4 Carbine

Do you intend to switch muzzle devices often? if going light, might as well go 14.5"

I am very happy with my BCM 16" pencil barrel upper. Very light and shoots great.

something with a MOE handguard and no FSB is pretty much going to leave you with a railed gas block.

The Palmetto deal seems really good, and was going to be my suggestion followed by... what do you know... BCM

Both of these would be good choices I think. I was thinking of building a lightweight upper and lower. 14.5" mid-length hammer forged LW profile barrel. Then I was gonna have two lowers for it. A good Noveske lower and a Plum Crazy plastic lower for fun. Then I was gonna drill out the front sight tower to remove as much material as possible. Similarly lighten the stock and handguard. Or maybe cut the front sight tower off the gas block and run T-1 on a Daniel Defense mount with no backup sights.

This is what I would buy, you can select all the options you want including the moe handguard

Here's my JSE upper on a PC lower, It only weighs 6.8 lbs with a loaded mag. Im really happy with it. (is the bottom gun)

Yeah, but for the same price, he can get a lightweight barrel AND have chrome lining AND all the bells and whistles PSA offers with their uppers. I have nothing against JSE, but if I can get more for the same price elsewhere, I go elsewhere.

This may not fit into the "relatively inexpensive" part of your requirements, but I've been drooling over this gun-- got to fondle it at Riflegear. It would be my ideal for a lightweight, KISS gun.

A classmate of mine recently bought a Bushmaster "superlight" carbine that I was really impressed with. It is polymer upper and lower receiver. Some people really have things against them, but I would be more than willing to try it out. I can't imagine it getting much lighter than this once the cheapo optic is removed. offhand I can't think of any other modifications to make a lighter non-SBR AR-15 carbine.

Bushmaster Firearms International based in Carson City, Nevada, United States, is an American manufacturer and distributor of firearms. The company's product line revolves around semi-automatic pistol and rifle variants of the M4 / AR-15 design. Now made with 100% US materials and parts.

I was merely making a suggestion on something I have experience with, settle down there buddy
