Bah, little kroil and elbow grease she'll be gtg.
There are 3 kinds of people in this world.
The wise, learn from the mistakes of others.
The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

I can't speak for Soviet practices during WW2 but our GIs would exchange out their weapons when coming off the line when under combat conditions. The weapons were stripped, cleaned, repaired and reissued. The military expected barrel pitting as a simple fact of using weapons in combat conditions and not being able to clean them frequently. The ordnance manuals of the time detailed what kind of pitting and how extensive was acceptable in bores to continue a weapon in service. All it would take is shooting an eight round clip of corrosive ammo in northwest Europe in an M1 rifle and not cleaning it for a day or two and you have pinprick pitting in the tube, bolt face and oprod end.

That gun must have shot a 3' group. I wonder if it had any rifling left at all.

I have a mosin m44 that I went 3 days without cleaning. That taught me how quickly rust can form. There was so much rust I thought I had ruined my rifle! Luckily it was mostly surface rust and aside from a few small pits it cleaned up well.

A few years ago there were a couple of threads on the files with nasty rusted Aks from shooting corrosive ammo. I think John@jcdlesales posted one.

Here's a good article with some pics of the effects of corrosive ammo.

The fact that guns get dirty is is one of those unfortunate facts of life, along with death and taxes.A piston operated gun will reduce the dirt that enters the rifle compared to a direct gas impingement gun (AR-15).When you add a suppressor, I think it makes little difference what type of gas system your rifle uses, it is going to get very dirty!
