    need help removing handguard....

anyone around orange county that can help me remove the standard handguard on my 9mm RRA upper? we tried using the upper receiver block, but the gas deflecter was in the way.

im trying to install my knights 2PC. rail handguard, and we just cant remove it. i have a block for the barrel, but as i use the wrench to try to loosen it, i think that its so tight that it turns the whole receiver.

Are you pulling the delta ring back towards the receiver? U should be able to pull back on it, while you slip the handguards out. Sorry if I misunderstand the question, but this should get the handguards off.

Also this may or may not help. Down the page a bit it gives details and pics for some handguards. Enjoy!

To install something like the picture you have above, you need to remove the delta ring, the barrel nut, and the barrel in order to install the new handguards.

Hmm, I don't know about 9mm, so I can't rightly say. If it's anything like regular 5.56 upper, just stick your barrel wrench into the nut there, and torque it while pushing in towards the receiver. The barrel nut should come loose. Unscrew it, and then you should be able to remove it once you've taken off your snap rings inside the delta.

You're going to need an action block and vise for this one, which I think you said you have already. Good luck dude.

ETA: I don't know about the block, maybe cut into with a dremel?

That's why I chose the Vltor CASV-EL. It doesn't require removal of the barrel or D-ring. I just slides on and then bolts to the receiver like the POF predator rail. I didn't want to deal with cutting the D-ring off. I think the one you have requires the removal of the FSB to slide the collar over the barrel.

You need a DPMS Panther Claw

                    And a Multi-tool.

proper tools are always your best bet. If you don't want to spend the money on tools, maybe someone down there can do it for you for little to no charge. We can provide the install service but we charge for shop time.

The delta ring does NOT get loosened.
It's captive to the barrel nut via the snap-ring and weld spring.
What you want to remove is the complete barrel nut assembly.

If you don't have a DPMS claw, you can use two pieces of hardwood like this to hold a flattop receiver:

If it's so tight that it pops out of the vise, come and see me.

                              Try it like this:

replace the bat with your gun, and the horse with anything hard.
