Bolt Guns ... any in 5.56, or just .223?

Ive only looked at Remmy and Savage, but does anyone make a bolt gun that will accept 5.56?

Everything on the market I see is .223, pretty standard stuff, but I got a decent ammount of 5.56 laying around.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in .223 & 5.56 brass? I collect my 5.56 XM193 brass, not sure if could be used to reload .223 with a lower pressure...

The brass is the same. The only difference is that there is a little more powder, Higher pressure. Im not 100% sure but I think the bullet is a LITTLE bigger. Not much at all. So yes you can use 5.56 BRASS ONLY for .223. Just make sure its a .223 projectile and powder charge.

The .223 Remington is rated for a maximum of 50,000 CUP while the 5.56mm is rated for 60,000 CUP. That extra 10,000 CUP is likely sufficient to cause a failure in a chamber that's only rated for the "sporting" .223 Remington.

The .223 Remington and the 5.56mm NATO, when checked with a chamber ream from a reliable manufacturer of each, also have discernable differences in the areas of freebore diameter, freebore length (leade) and angle of the throat.

Never seen a bolt gun in 5.56x45.

But I think I've seen em in .223 Wilde. A Wilde chamber is a hybrid that will accept both .223 remington and 5.56 nato. There's some very good info on this, google ammo oracle on ar15.com

Some of the "tactical" and "police" models state 5.56/223. Remy 700 Tactical and Savage Precision Carbine I believe. Check the websites.

Military brass is usually heavier walled so they have a little bit less case capacity. The bullets are the same diameter. The difference in the chambers is the leade and throat length. The drawing below shows the 5.56 chamber dimensions on top and the SAAMI 223 chamber dimensions on the bottom.
