A funny thing happened at the Vallejo Gun Show Saturday...

While working the booth, I finished my AR build. The funny part of the story was I spent about an hour debating whether or not to buy the upper that I had been looking for. I ended up with:

    The upper
    Magpull rear sight
    Primary Arms MD09 Red Dot
Two Pmag rebuild kits that I rebuilt into 30 rounders from my old GI 30 rounders
    BCM Gunfighter charging handle

The upper is a Yankee Hill 18" chrome lined fluted barrel (I think, I need to measure it to be sure, but it's definitely longer than 16 but doesn't look like a 20", but I didn't see an 18" barrel on their website, so I'm probably smoking crack), bolt/carrier group, muzzle brake, nice rails. I've had the lower for a year, but never saw the upper I wanted.

My obsession with CCS* continues as I bought a Primary Arms red dot sight, but it actually seemed to work really well and will work OK for range trips until I can get the Eotech with magnifier then I can use this one on my .22LR build.

Anyway, took it to the rang today, did some preliminary sighting in at 25 yards, then switched to 100 yards. I'm very pleased with how it and I shot considering the ammo had been sitting in an ammo can since 1996 and that was about the last time I shot an AR style rifle.

So here's the 100 yard target:

I need to go back and sight it in again, though this time using 62 grain bullets as this barrel is a 1:7 twist.

Oh, and here's a shout out to Luis from LCG (ar15gearsofwar.com) for the screaming deal on the complete upper.

All it needs now is an ambi safety and I'll be set. I built it featureless so I have the Solar Tactical grip wrap on it. It actually was quite comfortable to shoot that way.

I'll post a pic of the rifle later.

    *CCS = Cheap Chinese sh**

Another shout out to Luis. I bought a good amount of stuff from him during the Sept show and saw him again last weekend. He actually recognized me from last month and gave me a smoking deal on my purchase Sunday.

You kinda had to be there while I spent an hour justifying buying the upper, and then ended up buying a whole bunch of other stuff .

And here's the bush league pics to make this thread less useless.

And before someone chimes in about excess lubrication, I had just cleaned it. I've since re-disassembled it and wiped everything down .

Thanks! Upper was 650 complete. The brake is amazing, recoil felt like a .22, it was nice. I don't know if the brake will make people hate me, I got more than a few envious looks and questions about my 30 round mags and not using a bullet button, though .
