Advice on a new AK stock

I want to replace the poorly finished stock on my AK-74 (WASR-2) and have a couple questions. I'd like to go with a synthetic stock set and have been looking at K-Var stocks, but I am wondering what you guys think of K-Var, or if you recommend one in particular?

I saw this http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.ph...cat=251&page=1 on their site and it claims to be a drop-in replacement for fixed stock stamped receiver rifles. Would this require any modification to put on? And yes I know that I would need to weld or pin the stock.

    good stuff but not cheap.

If you need to "modify it" its usually really minor stuff just getting into to fit or line up.
It is plastic so its pretty easy.

Have a K-var stock on my Wasr -22. Zero fit issues.

The fixed stock and pistol grip from tapco are nice, the foreends are so so. The folders are complete garbage.

I couldnt justify spending 175 bucks on a stock that Id have to weld / pin open.

Now that I'm looking around I think I'm probably going with these:

Another quick question; how much would it cost me to have my rifle barrel threaded? Mine came unthreaded and I'm thinking I might want to add a muzzle brake eventually.

your going to have to lock that sidefolder open or extend your muzzle device if you want to keep it folding. Just keep that in mind. If you want to refinish your stock that is easy enough to do. Or send it to me and I can refinish it for a small fee, PM me if you want pictures of stocks that I have refinished.

Ya, I know. I plan on locking it, but I'm not sure how I want to do it yet. I'd like it to be reversible if I move out of state.

Get NATO length which is longer...That is the biggest criteria for stocks on an AK that is why so many run an AR stock adapter on their AK patterns.

Not sure if your receiver will accomodate a metal underfolder, which you can actually fold with a slightly longer muzzle device that makes the rifle 30 inches OAL folded!
If not get the side folder & add about an inch to your muzzle & you can also utilize the folding part. It'll be way cool IMHO...

Yep, screw the folders. Get a NATO length fixed stock. It's a lot more comfortable to shoot. I've got one on my WASR22 and three or four more on some of my homebuilds.
