Its a 1994 model I believe.... You CAN find a decent CIA FAL if you look...

You probably have an Imbel receiver imported by Century. You are correct that some of Century's FALs turned out OK, but that is a major crapshoot, a lot of them had feeding problems if not more. They earned the name "FrankenFal", as Century would mix and match parts, including metric and inch.

Yah I agree, I heard that the Imbel imports are OK, but the built in USA ones are crap...

The one I have is all inch (L1A1) with a metric (thumbnail) cut receiver...

The metric lower I have for it works just fine on it as well...

The only thing "wrong" on mine is the receiver isn't cut for the folding charging handle, I havent gotten around to do cutting the handle yet (leave the receiver alone)

I might put a metric knob style handle on it instead if I don't sell/trade it...

P.S. Its yours for an M1 Garand

Of course, the Imbel "Gear Logo" uppers are very popular, but last I spoke with Mac, there are none to be had, unless you find a private party who will transfer. The Dan Coonan Industries (DCI) uppers that were previously offered by FAC were very nice US made receivers with attractive lightning cuts. The latest from Harlan at NoDak Spud is that Dan is in the process of completing the new tooling for his next run of DCI's. The previous tooling was apparently owned by FAC and Dan couldn't get it when FAC shut down.

Not all Hesse receivers are junk. I got a CAI FAL built with Hesse receiver. It's old, it's ugly but shoots first class.

Currently, the prices of upper receivers are jacked-up too much. However, it's very possible to be banned in Kali. So get it while you still can.

With all of the AR/AK stuff going on, I happened to check out the "banned by name" list and noticed that the Springfield SAR-48 is on the list, too. Which is kinda funny, seeing as the SAR-48 is an Imbel FAL with the SA name on it, but plain Imbels are perfectly fine.
I've known daredevils and I ain't got nothing against them.....its just they're all dead.
