A Saiga you would need to install a bullet guide and mod the mag release, to use standard AK mags. Some people think you also would need to swap parts for 922r compliance.

That said, I did all that and then some to mine and agree its one of the best choices.

Your taking it out of sporter config, yes you do need 922r compliance.

arguably.... The 5.45x39 come into the county able to use military AK74 mags with no need for 922r compliance parts and are still considered in sporter config, so its not as cut and dry as you claim. I don't believe the ATF has ever issued a ruling on if doing only the bullet guide mod, if that takes it out of sporter config. Until they do its only your opinion.

Your right, its not written directly against it, because the law is ridiculously vague.

"Sporting rifle" has never been fully defined. Im not going to post all the different arguments about this over the years that have come up, because both sides bring up points that make sense.

Im in the "dont do it" camp, your in the "go ahead" camp. OP can decide for himself what he wants to do.

There is no valid arguement. If it is being changed to a configuration which is not importable, you have to adhere to 922(r).
