    Saiga Conversions Questions...

So my birthday is coming up, next tuesday. I have been going back and forth between an AK Parts kit, Saiga Conversion, Or Arsenal.

I have a couple questions about the saiga.
    1) Are there upgrades for the Saiga trigger? I saw a couple threads that said you cant really change it out without drilling extra holes or something. I was hoping to use a tapco (only other possible saiga trigger I found), but not too sure how this works out for a saiga conversion.

    2) Nowadays, to convert a Saiga... is it still cheaper than a Arsenal AK? Being like 450-500 after dros and tax, plus extra parts etc, plus gas money +misc money to do the build party (first conversion want to make sure I know what Im doing) and the tools to do the project... Seems like its gonna be right around the same.

    3) Can you use classic AK wood furniture on a Saiga Conversion? I want it to look as classic as possible. And side question. Does Ironwood only offer unfinished furniture?

    4) How do I get the saiga to accept normal AK mags. Is this difficult or some extra thing you have to do, or just part of the conversion process? I know it has something to do with a bullet guide.

    Thanks.

    1) the tapco is the preferred trigger for a saiga conversion
This is the one I've used previously:

    2) I'm not sure anyone does Saiga conversions based on a cost/benefit analysis. I'd think it would price out the same.

    3) Its possible to do so, but requires more work than a standard pg conversion

    4) bullet guide installation, and mod the mag release, which is a separate task from moving the trigger forward and installing the pg

If you're genuinely interested in doing this but don't know anything about it, you should be over at the forums at http://www.saiga-12.com/

You can polish it up, or install a couple of the tapco parts, buts its worth it to convert it, then grip fin it IMO, and the holes already all exist for the parts. you actually end up plugging a couple

Yes, and I would never back arsenal after there "F-u CA" mentality, then turn around and offer a couple products after they see the money. Also, you dont need a build party to convert it. Its 2 hours max of work, easy to do with common tools.

      3) Can you use classic AK wood furniture on a Saiga Conversion? I want it to look as classic as possible. And side question. Does Ironwood only offer unfinished furniture?

yes you can, but you will need a front handguard retainer, the bolt on you can do easily, the normal one you have some work ahead of ya. As for wood furniture, couldnt tell ya, I run poly

Bullet guide, easy to put on. Need a small tap and die, and a drill ( I would say drill press, thats what I used, some do it with a hand drill which I dont think is a great idea)

      Thanks.

Just do a parts kit build.
But I did recently convert a saiga 308 n it was fairly easy. But I didnt have to deal with a feed ramp either.

Feed ramp takes about 10 - 15 minutes to drill and tap if you buy a bullet guide. I made my own, so bump it up to 30-45 if you cut and shape it.

For a Siaga .308 rifles there is no need to put a bullet guide unless you happen to have a huge stock of rare Yugo M77 mags around.

Should have stated that I was talking for a 762.

PM me if you need a handguard retainer, I have a new unmounted extra one that I will sell for $30 free shipping. it allows you to use any wood military surplus AK handguard on the saiga 7.62, 223, 5.45, but NOT the saiga 12 or 308. it also does not require you to take off the gas block, but does require you to slightly file the barrel or the screw doesn't fit. You can dremel sand the middle of the screw so that you don't have to remove as much material from the barrel.

it's also a plus if you get a threaded barrel version and the dimpled receiver.
