    Bore cleaning. Is this normal?

So I purchased a brand new DDM4, and decided to run some patches through the barrel before taking it out to the range. I ran a dry patch through, came out dirty, then ran a patch with solvent through, and 5 more dry patches, still dirty, then brushed the chamber, and ran a bore brush through, then more dry patches. I must have run 15 patches through and they all came out dirty. It seems like it's impossible to have a patch come through clean.

So I didnt want to keep running patches through my bore and decided to just take it out. 160 rounds later, and brushing the chamber twice, running a bore brush through twice, both times with solvent, dry patches, and wet patches, I must have gone through 20 patches, it's still coming out dirty. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

I have never run a patch in my life that came out of a barrel completely clean.

But I have a short attention span.

clean and dirty are subjective... show a pic of your "dirty" patch.

my normal procedure is: run a solvent patch through the bore. let the gun sit for 10 min. run the same solvent patch through again, then push a brush through numerous times. I then run another solvent patch through, and then run a dry patch through a couple times, it can be the same patch. I run one more fresh solvent patch through, and a dry one to see if the bore is clean enough. Then either brush some more or oil depending on how clean it is. I am very picky however.

i have the same problem, what i do is i alternate between spraying powder blast, dry patches, wet patches, skinny bore brush, spray MP PRO-7, CLP Lubricant/cleaner, bore snake Rem Oil, thick bore brush. it still comes out dirty; and i have used about 30-40 patches!!! i usually stop when the patch is light grey. but this time i am worried for my sks i used 4-5 corrosive ammo and i am not sure if it was enough and i worry about the other parts in the gun. if you have not fired corrosive ammo then you should be GTG imo.

I run the brush first to loosen up anything, run a wet solvent patch 6 times (because its an otis patch, use the three holes on both sides). I'm done after that. My oiled patch goes through last with the oil i store it with, and the patch usually comes out light grey.

Barrels are attached to a fixture to be fired with high pressure proof rounds. They are normally not cleaned prior to shipping out.

gotta let the solvent soak a bit, and brush it more than using the patches.

imo the patches are there to just squeegee the dirty stuff that the brush gets loose. so if it comes out dirty, then run a solvent patch, wait like 5-10 minutes, then brush a few times (i usually run the brush like 5 times) then run another solvent patch, if still dirty, then brush it more, if it is almost clean except for a small spot or a really light grey, then i just run a oiled patch and call it a day.

heck on my mosin barrel, even using ammonia based cleaner and letting it soak, i have never had a clean patch come out of it and i doubt i will since there is some pitting and i'm sure those pits are holding onto the residue real tight.
