    WASR-10 Problems

    Hi All,

I have purchased a new WASR-10 and was cleaning it when I came across the following problems:

    (1) Removed safety selector toggle and now I dont know where a certain spring clip goes or what it is. From my google-fu, I believe the orphaned spring clip is the hammer retaining spring clip; but the shape doesn't match.

    (2) My Dust Cover won't go back on! I am not sure what is happening here. I too, also did my research here and looked to see if people had similar problems. I watched people replacing their dust covers on Youtube and it seems pretty simple (Place dust cover over gas port end first and then press buttstock end of cover until it engages the block at the end of the recoil spring. My WASR-10 doesnt do that.

I took out the boilt carrier and recoil spring to do a test fit of the cover onto the receiver. I noticed that on the end of the receiver where the block on the recoil spring sits, there is a slit where the buttstock meets the receiver and I think this is where the dust cover is supposed to be. The Dust Cover still doesnt fit with carrier and spring removed. After a day or two of tugging with the damn WASR-10, I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong. (Will also post pictures later)

Has anyone as unfortunate as me seen these problems before? Help?

Addendum: Important fact I omitted --> I placed the "eye" of the spring clip at the end of my safety lever pin and placed the sherperd hook of the spring clip around oneof the pins in the FCG. After I reassembled the bolt carrier and recoil spring, I did a functional check of the WASR without the dust cover.

    (1) I found that cocking with the bolt carrier does reset the trigger.
    (2) However, when I set the safety on, I can pull the trigger and the trigger is able to move about 1/8 of an inch; when I set the safety to off, the trigger is stuck from the before-mentioned activity. Trigger only becomes active again when I recock with bolt carrier.

I am not sure what to tell you about the dust cover but just push it straight down it should go on. The spring on the saftey lever is what holds the trigger and hammer pins in place. The U shaped end goes under the hammer pin not around it. When you put the saftey selector back in the middle part of the spring will sit in the grove on the trigger pin.

I had to do this same thing on mine so if I am wrong please let us know.

    Good Luck

Thanks. I will try what you said.

I will still try to put up pictures since it is awfully hard to troubleshoot something without seeing the problem.
