Whats a good price for buying one? I really would love to own one but I have no idea what I should pay. Could you guys chime in that would be great. I saw one at Big 5 today for $999 it was pretty beat up is that standard?

It's a Garand.
Even though right now, CMP is out of service grade Springfields, the other grades you'd get from CMP will be far better than anything Big 5 has. It's my understanding the Big 5 guns are South American returns that are pretty bleak. CMP: $495 to $995. http://www.odcmp.com/Sales/rifles.htm
You can also pay attention to the "for sale" sections on other web sites.

There are several nice ones in the Private Firearms Sales forum here right now!
Go there and do a search for "Garand". Edit your post title while you're at it.

CMP is your best bet. You'll get a rifle way better than Big 5, and probably on the upper end of their grading scale (they are quite conservative in their ratings, I got a Service Grade that was almost pristine).Comment

Go w/ the CMP Service Grade Garand.
$620.00 delivered in a nice hard-case.
If you ask for a high Serial number "shooter"...
they come out like THIS, ...with either a nice USGI walnut or new birch stock.
Use the few months it will take the CMP to build back their stock of SGs after the Camp Perry Nationals and GCA convention sales promotions to get your paperwork in order.
These are near-new rifles at a steal of a price.Last edited by Red Devil; 08-15-2011, 10:24 PM.Comment

Ive been telling myself for years Im going to buy a Garand from the CMP, but every time I have the cash I get something else instead. I have a feeling Im going to regret it if I dont move soon...The California Moderate Centrist Militia member in exile
