i need help on sks, the receiver cover won't come off after turning...

the retaining pin up at a 90 degree angle. i have used this video as a guide- and this website for the manual-http://stevespages.com/pdf/sks_59_66.pdf

    what can i do???

should i use a mallet or a hammer?

i tried moving the receiver cover off again and it is still giving me trouble.

it feels like it is not connected to anything.

for a moment i thought i had it going, the lever was catching on something and it seemed like all i had to do was push/pull the cover off but nothing happened. i dunno?? i never had an sks. and this dust cover release lever thing is a pain. in all the youtube vids it comes out easily but not with mine.

pivot pin and pull it out, it won't fall out, comes out about 1" then everything pretty much falls right off

what do you mean by "pivot pin"?

      to rotate it?

i have turned it to various angles but it stays stuck.

nothing happens when i lift the lever.

      thanks

        The lever can be tight.
It is held in by a pin sticking out sideways from the cross pin that goes into the receiver wall opposite the lever end.
The lever has to be rotated until the pin aligns with a slot in the receiver, that you cannot see.
Pull outwards on the lever as you lift it up, you should be able to feel it when the pin aligns with the groove.

If your really at that point walk away. Try again tomorrow. One of my Mausers was giving me problems repairing the rear sight a couple nights ago. I was PO'd. I walked away. Tried again the next night and it was a piece of cake. It just works that way some times.

Rotate the lever to 12 o'clock (straight up) then push it out with your thumb.

push on the back of the dust cover with the other hand to relieve some tension on the recoil spring while pushing the lever out
