I need suggestions on lightweight AR barrels

I'm building another AR and this time I want to make it lightweight. Which lightweight barrels do you guys recommend? Any links?

    Thanks
WTB: Wilson Combat, Les Baer, and TRP with half light rail.

I used one of the chrome-lined A1 barrels for my build. Works great.

are you looking for a stainless barrel or a chromemoly chrome lined barrel??

stainless i'd go for a blackhole weaponry

for a chromemoly barrel i'd go with one of these two..
daniel defense cold hammer forged chromemoly chrome lined barrel

      daniel defense chromemoly chromelined barrel

both of those will be great barrels.. not liteweight profile.. but goverment profile mid-length..

also you did not say what caliber you were looking for, I assumed 5.56 so those are the barrels that i posted for you to look at..

I have a bushmaster, and a BCM. Both are the 16" lightweight barrels. The BCM is a 1:7 twist, and is CHF so you can shoot 77gr bullets out of it if that is important.

You can shoot 77gr out of the Bushmaster too. It will just have a bit less stabilization on its trajectory... the same as firing a 55gr out of the 1:7. My 1:9, 14.5 shoots 77gr all day long and I can hit a chest sized target out to 200 yards... farther if I could see farther .

If you are looking for a hunting rig and/or precision is your thing...

1:9 = 62gr and lower for the best accuracy
1:7 = 62gr and higher for the best accuracy
          1:8 = 62gr to 77gr for the best accuracy

People have written that 1:7 is too fast for 35-40 gr rounds, and they break apart in flight, but I have never seen this to be 100% true. I think it happens, but its not going to every time with every type of low weight/length ammo.

Its something to avoid if hunting small game using a 1:7 twist mind you. Just another reason 1:9 and 1:8 are better for a general purpose rifle.

Really the only thing a 1:7 twist is good for is mid-range hunting of humans (250-450 yards). For short range a 1:9 / 1:8 gets the job done with shorter /lower weight ammo designed for small game...and for small game the MOA of the 5.56 or .223 isn't there past 200 yards with any twist out of an AR15.

As with larger game or North American predators (yots, wolves and cats) you dont want to be taking shots past 250yards since the fragmentation isn't that great against fur coats... heck the problem they are having in A-stan is Taliban forces are seeking medical attention from our hospitals hours after gun battles with our guys. Many wounds caused by the 5.56mm past 350yards are not life threatening when it passes through thick canvas coats. Thats one of the many reasons the AR15 isnt great for mid-long range firefights. While you can hit a target out to 600 yards, the wound ballistics are not what you want in battle.

So the only real reason to get a 1:7 is accuracy against paper past 350 yards..and if thats your thing.... get a Rem 700 or another Bolt action like a Tikka
