flush mounted afg2 on a Troy TRX extreme VTAC

So I went to my local gun store to buy ammo and not only did I buy ammo, but I ended up purchasing another parts for another upper.

    Parts list that I purchased:

Black Hole Weaponry 16" barrel w/ 1x8" twist
    Spikes Upper receiver
Troy TRX extreme battlerail Viking Tactical model 13"
    Magpul BUIS gen 2
    Battlecomp 1.0
YHM clamp style low pro gas block
    Carbine length gas tube

So I get home and put the thing together. Scavenge some extra parts to complete the upper. I attach a rail to the bottom of the handguard and put on the AFG2. I just didnt like the way it felt in my hand and I also didnt like the way it looked. I take the rail off and grip the handguard and turns out i like the way it felt. So I start searching for a flush mounted hand stop but could not find one. Then I started to look for a low profile rail. I didnt want to purchase an expensive low profile rail mount to find out it wouldnt work. So I decided to try to modify my AFG2 so that I can use the original backing plate and flush mount the AFG to the handguard. My first attempt failed drilling holes for the shorter backing plate. So I attempted it again using the longer backing plate and this is how it turned out. I will have to clean it up a bit and paint it, but I generally like how it turned out. And it feels a lot better. I'll have to see how it holds up while shooting.

Hot damn! That looks not bad at all. So you just cut it down and bolted it through the hand guard? I dig it I don't really like how it looks on my AR either, maybe I will give that a whirl.

Doesn't look like it was cut at all.

The Troy tube comes with short and long rail sections that can be bolted to the tube through the holes.
There's the rail section, and an inside strip with threaded holes in the ends that line up with the screw holes in the rail sections.

I ended up using one long and one short rail section on my 14.5" middy because I wanted the swivel mount on the front.

OP just drilled the AFG and used the Troy backing plate inside the tube.
I like it... looks really nice.

hey thanks guys. Yeah I thought about just buying a AFG1 to clean up the look but i just didn't like the way it felt. So I just drilled a couple of holes and grinded down the flaps on top of the AFG that allow it to hold onto a rail. It hasn't been put to the test yet so as soon as I get some range time I'll let you know how it holds up.

Nice job! It definitely looks better sitting flush that way.
