Steel cased ammo and an HK91

Just wanted to ask your opinions since everyone is always talking about .223 and steel cases. Is it ok to run this stuff in an HK91 since it is a destroyer of brass also would you feed it to your M1A?

    Thanks

What does that have to do with his post? If he has a HK91, what in the hell would he want a $500 Saiga for?

If thats a real genuine HK91 like my mine I wouldn't risk using crappy steel case ammo. Its worth too much to save a few cents on ammo.

Steel case should be fine. Hk's are built for battle. Had a hk93 century clone in 5.56. It ate a steady diet of tula. With brown bear, had occassional fte, but everything else was 100%.

I have run wolf in my M1A Scout and PTR rifles without any problems.

I would imagine that running Wokf .308 in a .308 rifle would be fairly trouble free...... compared to say running Wolf .223 through a 5.56 AR.....

If it's an ACTUAL HK91 with a fluted chamber, you might get too much blowby dirtying the gun prematurely which could foul up the action. The gun itself will still function with steel just fine.

If it's not an actual HK, then it probably doesn't have the fluted chamber and there shouldn't be any issues with steel at all.

I think that the germans invented steel case ammo. My ptr gobbles up steel cased ammo, from chinese corrosive to the russian stuff. I really like the russian brown bear stuff, its hotter and the primer and necks are sealed(waterproof).

You may see some issues with steel cased ammo then. Since the steel stuff doesn't expand as well as brass to fill the chamber, you'll get a lot more blowby from the steel as from the brass due to the fluting.

Since the HK91 is really just a glorified delayed blowback action though, it shouldn't actually cause any performance issues or be detrimental to the gun. You'll foul up the action a lot faster than brass though, so I would clean it more often than you do with brass.

Alternatively, keep shooting it until the fouling fills in the flutes in the chamber and you get a better seal
