    taking out bullet button

I have a standard bullet button but i was going to get a "convertible bullet button" for when I go Hunting at my cousins in Colorado. I have seen Videos on how to instal bullet buttons but cant find one to take it out. I used a pen to press in the magazine release all the way so I can loosen it to take it out but it dosen't seem to go far enough and will not clear the gun in order for me to remove it. Someone said loosen the castle nut, I which i was a little confused by? Any and all help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

It's quite easy if you have a standard one. all you have to do is unscrew the little black piece on the inside that is screwed on to the mag release. It has 2 inward prongs, so just find a paper clip or a pen and slowly unscrew it. Once it is unscrewed all the way take it out and the big solid black piece should be able to be taken out and the mag release should pop right out

There is a special tool available for that nut inside the BB. That little nut is somewhat of a castle nut, not to be confused with the one on your stock ;-)

Depending if you used thread locker or not, it can unscrew very easily, or be a bit of a bear. Sometimes you can use something sharp like a scratch awl to tighten or loosen it.
Any local black rifle shop will probably have the little wrench.

Special tool is called a "Wonder Wrench" with this tool you can thread it on the BB and it works as if you do not have a BB. Do not do in Calif. though.

I used to use a set of pointy tweezers with the points ground down just a little bit.

check out the FreeLock upgrade to the standard BB. It replaces the inner black nut and when in the state of CA screw it down and tight and your legal and while out of state unscrew it to stick above the BB and viola... normal mag release

both are $5.99. You can call and order and ask them to ship it in a little envelope.

paper clip or hairpin can do the job as well, you just gotta shape it to where it works!

The red upgrade button for the original bullet button that is shown above is long enough that you can loosen it (when outside CA) and it works like a normal magazine release and short enough that it is CA compliant when tightened down. Works pretty well. Just three or four twists one way or the other to convert it form CA legal to a normal magazine release and back again. It came with an adjustment tool when ordered in the Freelock Mini-Kit.

The new bullet buttons have the ability to convert between CA legal and normal magazine release without buying additional parts from another company. I have yet to use them since both my ARs are running the older button with the red upgrade button and that setup works just fine.

I keep the FreeLock tool and a normal magazine release in the grip compartments on my rifles for when I travel outside the state. But usually just leave it on there and just loosen the red button when taking a course outside of CA.

                              Raddlock ftw..

No need to have special spare tools that will just get lost (as mentioned above) Just use a standard flat head. Converts in seconds for out of state use (and doesn't have an ugly red looking thing sticking out too)
