    Rifle in national forest

Is it ok to carry an unloaded rifle through Angeles National Forest?

Reason I'm asking is I think it would be good practice for future hunts to hike the trail with gear I intend to carry (even if I'm not hunting Angeles). I'd open carry a bolt action rifle unloaded strapped to my backpack.

If this is not ok, are there any areas in Socal within 1.5 hours of Irvine that do allow hiking with an unloaded long arm? I know concealed carrying handguns is a grey area, but what about OC with rifles?

call the ranger station ask them about the area you are walking in. Get a map. Areas with a red border have firearm restrictions with felony convictions if violated.
