    Fal Project

so I just finished building my Fal and all I have left to do is get a bullet button, re-finish the gun and get magazines for it. I have figured out how I am going to do the finish but I dont know which bullet button to go with and I am having alot of trouble finding magazines for it. The gun is all metric except the receiver which is inch. Anyone have any ideas?

Due to lack of BB I am keeping the gun disassembled

For the BB, I recommend the JJperl one:

It is more well-made than the PRK one and does not involve having a big shiny hex nut on the side of your gun.

Copes has metric and inch FAL mags, and will break them down into rebuild kits for a dollar each I believe. Then just make some 10 rounders out of 'em.

The newer jjperl BBs have a relief cut where it will allow you to break open the rifle enough to remove the bolt carrier.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'm gonna go with the JJPERL Mag lock but as far as mags go Im not sure because Im on a VERY tight budget and can only afford 1 or 2. I lucked out with this gun and Im only 137 dollars in it as it sits (yes it fires and it works very well)

Yes,good design all the way around. The ones where you can't remove the bolt without seperating the upper and lower are sihhty design. If you have an original INCH mag release you need to switch it out for a METRIC mag release to work. Are you sure your UPPER is an INCH?--it looks like a metric in the picture.Pete

check out 44 mag for mags .The inch pattern mags are hard to find . I have several FAl's.I hate the fact you have to two differant mags for one type of rifle. But I love the gun.Easy to clean ,shoots any ammmo ,easy to shoot. The only bad is that the ammo is pricey, even surplus.

+1 on that. The only disadvantage to the featureless route is the grip straps take some getting used to. Solar Tactical makes them in left hand, right hand and centered and can even custom mold to any pistol grip for a bit more in price.

You can use any >10 round magazines you may have in a featureless build, which you cannot do with a BB build. Break down/field stripping is as it was before. I suppose the decision is whether you have any "standard" mags and can adapt to the ergonomics of a grip strap.

                          Good luck,

It's easier IMO to go with a stripper clip top cover, and use a piece of brass rod in place of the mag spring to lock the mag. It becomes totally non-removable, but port loading with the open top cover is very easy- easier than using a tool to pop the mag anyways (think M1A, enfield rifle).

ALso depends if you want to run optics on a top rail- the clip cut rail is pretty short.

A friend gave me most of the gun for free but it wasnt in working condition. I took it to Entreprise Arms and they gave me a sweet deal making it operational. New bolt, trigger pin, carry handle, flash hider, barrel attachment, headspacing and complete look-over for 137.

I am definitely going with a BB, I would rather deal with that than one of those grips and no flash hider.

Although I stated before that I knew what I was gonna do with the finish I am now not so sure. the gun is currently hot blued with ALOT of wear on it and a few spots of cheap blue. I have no problem with the look of wear, in fact I like it on most guns but the finish on it is all wrong anyway. a real FAL is painted black... I bought the correct paint for it but Im not sure if Im going to do it.
