    Rail Covers.....

Looking for some input. I am looking for some rail covers for a Midwest Industries forearm. I got some great input from Tacticalcity. Looking for some more input! What do you guys use? Can you give me some pros and cons? Thanks!

    Cheers!

You can get either the ladder or panel style covers from Magpul. I use ladder covers as they are a lower-profile than the panels. You can also trim ladder covers easily to make for a perfect fit.

BTW Magpul doesn't rape you on shipping charges either.

I have both and prefer the ladder type b/c of the lower profile and also b/c they are easier to take on and off.

Try not overthink it too much because it really is quite simple. As G17raider said, the ladders are lower-profile therefore, they keep the handguard thinner and easier to grab. The only problem is that the ladders suck for protection. If you shoot any of the matches and have to rest the barrel on a barricade or a big rock, you'll know what I mean.
IMVHO, the best rail panels are the Tango Downs. They're beefy, solidly-mounted and don't rattle like the KAC panels. Riflegear.com sells these and they're a sponsor of the board.

I've used about 8 different kinds of ladder and panels. My current fav panels are the Magpuls - easier to cut and, most importantly, better hand feel. Tango Down panels are too big, bulky and thick. All the other random ones were just ok.

I prefer the Magpul textured rail covers. You can cut them to the desired length you want, they provide a great grip surface and you can color match them to your PRS and MIAD They are simple to attach and remove as well once you figure out the trick to it.

Just a minor tactical Gucci point:

I forgot to ask.. are you running an all-black AR? The only reason that I ask is that the FDE and Foliage green combinations of Magpul and Tango Down don't match exactly. So, if you go with MagPul rail panels and you're running a Tango Down vertical grip, you'll see a difference in the color scheme.

I used the Magpul rail covers, a combination of the pads and the latters. I put the pads on the 3, 6, and 9-O'clock rails closest to the magazine well, and ladder covers for all other areas not being used by accessories.

I like a combination of the Magpul XT and ladder covers as well. The TangoDown covers are nice, especially if you want the one with the recessed area for a flashlight pressure pad. One interesting thing to note is that the Magpul ladder covers are actually made by Falcon and marked as ERGO grips if you look on the back of them. It seems that Falcon has a patent on the ladder design and Magpul is reselling them.
