About to send A firearm Ownership Report for Long Arm. Bad Idea?

Howdy everyone! Well I was able to locate a form that allows me to transfer my mother's rifle to me with some form of documentation, even though it is not necessary. The calguns.net guide says "not to bring attention to yourself" does sending in a change of ownership form for long gun count as bringing attention to oneself?

I just want to have some form of documentation that it now belongs to me. Has anyone had any experience with sending in the voluntary form?

    Thanks in advance.

There's no need to document a longarm transfer from mother to son. Its completely legal for her to just hand it over. If sending in the document is going to give you the warm and fuzzies then go for it, but it's not legally needed.

My only question is, why do you want a document that says it belongs to you? There is no legal reason for it, so why are you bothering with it? (That's an actual question) If you can't answer that question, then I'd say don't bother with it.

I'm just worried later down the line the DOJ may somehow magically add names to the "LIST". I know recent legislation had stopped them from being able to add names, but still...California is one heck of a strange state. If it is declared as an "assault weapon" that i may have to register, I want it under my name.

Is it dangerous though? Its an Off List Lancaster Ak. I'm listing it as a Lancaster model NDS-3 7.62. By putting it under my name am i hanging myself?

Either you have a pretty bad***** mom, or something smells fishy to me.

Longarms are not registered in California anyway. If you were to look on the DROS paperwork you would see that it does not have a serial number.

Personally I wouldn't want the state to know if my parents gifted me a rifle, its none of their business.

Seriously though, your mom bought an AK for herself?

Forget the grades. If Gov Brown has his way, all you need to be is an illgal alien to get a free college education... may the ATF will give them "fast and furious" guns as a graduation present aswell.

                          Good call.

This is the kind of situation where you are tying to do the right thing but sending in a form will only have negative consequences. BTW, congratulations on graduating from college/university.
