    7.62x39 platforms

I am not a big fan of the AK. And I really don't feel like building one.

Are their other rifles for the 7.62x39 round?

What would be easy to buy that is CA legal?

Just get a non converted saiga (sporterized), around 400 to 450 and you're gtg!

I'm curious what you dislike so much about AK's if you apparently like the round it fires.

I just do not like them. My brother has one that he built. Everything seems really loose. It seems sloppy.

I really don't care about the round so much either. But I would like to have something that can fire that round. I like to have a wide variety of things. While it wont be my go to round or gun, it will be available to me.

Could you be more specific in your needs? Do you want a military styled rifle or did you want something along the lines of an SKS or Mini Thirty?

I have a VZ-58 and it's great but the aftermarket is limited. I'd love a SIG 556 chambered in 7.62x39 but that's a ways up they money chain.

Just a rifle, doesn't really matter. I am not a sniper (I know you don't snipe with aks, well red jacket does) nor law enforcement.

It would be a BLM gun.

Just a decent rifle for around $500 give or take a couple hundred bucks.

                      I know Sigs are $$$$.

A $500 budget will buy you a good rifle: VZ-58, SKS, and Mini-30. Check in the for sale section here on Calguns and you will find several Minis and SKSs. Every now and then a VZ will pop up but they are less common.

                          I agree on the SKS.

They are so much fun to shoot, you can pick them up all day long for a song, parts are cheap - but you'll never need them. They are built like tanks and I've never had an issue with any SKS in the umpteen years I've been shooting them.

Just a great all around gun.

The looseness could have been the build - Correction...Is the build. Most AKs I handle are solid. That is what happens when you put flats in the hands of people the cannot even balance a book. Go try a well built AK pattern.

The SKS is a military rifle.
