    "Best Lower Receiver" Thread

(Did a search and didn't see this, so hopefully it's helpful and not a dupe. If so, mods can merge, delete, what-have-you)

One of the pretty repetitive threads is the "what is the best lower?"

The pretty standard answer is "doesn't matter" or "all the same" etc...
That is generally what I have subscribed to as well.

That being said, I stumbled across this analysis on AR15.com:

Seemed pretty objective, and had some interesting info, not just opinion. Hopefully this can help those who are curious.

    Cheers!

never had a problem with any lowers i have built. that article showed cosmetic differences who cares. they all do the same thing they all hold the trigger assembly. so buy the one that fits your budget and remember most are built on the same cnc machine they just put a different name on them.

            I have lowers from;
Lauer, Vulcan, LMT, Stag, CMMG, Doublestar, Si defense, RRA, POF, Daniel defense and a few other misc lowers. They are all exactly the same and do EXACTLY the same thing.
No complaints on any of them.
            A lower is a lower.

Xeno also posted this same thread here on Calguns in 2007.

              Good stuff.

Yeah, just thought it was interesting that there were actually slight machining differences. For some reason, I'd always assumed they were all pretty much identical.

So I guess, technically, the roll mark and finish isn't the ONLY difference

It's pretty clear that none of the differences in cut have any bearing on function, so ultimately a lower is a lower is, indeed, a lower...

My best lower receiver is definitely my Larue Billet....

Although the AR15.com lower i'm contemplating picking up might go toe to toe with it.

As for forged lowers... i think mega has the best finish. I also like LMT... the finish is different... it's kinda "dirty"... because it's so matte... makes it kind of cool looking.

Any lower that's made properly will be good. A list of "best" lowers is pointless because all the critical components are in the upper. That's where it really counts.

Find one that you can afford, or with the logo that you like the best, and be done with it. You should concentrate on the upper instead.

My veiw on lowers and uppers is this, I always stick to forged milspec receivers. Yes billets receivers are cool but they do not fit in my clam shell. So it makes it extremely difficult to assemble.

Now I personally have receivers from many different companies daniel defense, lmt, colt, stag, mega, jd, lam, aero, noveske, bcm. All are forged due to the fact that if not milspec the uppers will not fit my clam shell and I would not be able to service or even assemble them. Now of course the logos on the lowers is all subjective, I like the jd, lam crosshair logos the best, and the noveske.. The others are just lowers.. It really all is opinion, some people like ford some like chevy.

When it really comes down to it, a milspec lower is a lower, the logo and the markings are the only difference, so go for whatever logo makes u say "wow that is cool"

                              That is my 2cents
