300 blackout

Im thinkin about building a 300 Blackout upper for my AR so I have the capability to shoot a larger caliber. Ive heard that you only have to technically get the 300 Barrel? does anyone have any experience with the 300? Or should I just go all the way with the .50 Beowulf

Here's the best way of looking at it, I think.

If you're into the off calibers as I am, the .300BWFB has a lot going for it.
Two big companies, Hornaday and Remington are producing it. Hornaday kept the
Whisper spec, but it shoots identically to the Remington Blackout from my PWS .300 BLKout SBR.
You'll also have a host of smaller ammo companies to select from.
Reloading is already easy and the selection of projectiles are plentiful.

I also have another upper in progress, am 11.5in. .300 that I'll use for deer this year.
I'm using a Blackhole Weaponry barrel on that one.

I'd say go for it.

I'm honestly contemplating selling my BCM 11.5 kino upper I bought for one of my AR pistols and getting a .300 blackout.

Don't worry, the other pistol is getting a LMT 10.5".

I built a .300 whisper before the blackout came out, but I had the chamber custom reamed to 1.4" which is the same as the blackout, so in effect I have a .300 blackout. I reload my own and had some fun developing loads. Its a sweet cartridge. you can load them subsonic or supersonic. Subs are fun because even without a supressor they are pretty quiet. Quieter than a .45 pistol for sure. I ruined my first barrel with a squibb, so if you reload, be careful.
BTW, if you are interested in this cartridge, this really isn't the forum to be on. Go over to the quarterbore forums. They have 2 or 3 boards dedicated to the .300 whisper and .300 blackout. TONS of info over there.

so its a AR shooting AK bullets... just whisper....? Aka just a sub sonic load correct?

Can ak bullets not be sub sonic as easily as .308?

I believe the goal was to have a heavy .30cal projectile shoot subsonic while still using std AR mags. you could make a 7.62x39 round go subsonic but the case design makes it hard to feed correctly in an AR straight mag.
