    Thanks again brando.

They are for just in case. I know they are a bit heavy...but they will probably not get much use so I might consider them. This has been super educational. Thanks all

So I was wondering were at, as far as rifle ammo goes, do FMJ bullets penetrate vests? How about handgun? Also, ceramic body armor is much stronger but is quite a bit more expensive, so I had the same question for that. Thanks.
      tanda,

A bullet proof vest won't stop rifle ammo!!!!! It'll go through you like butter so unless you get one of the few out there that can defeat some rifle ammo most likely it'll be so heavy it'll just weigh you down.

Most bullet proof vest will stop revolver/pistol ammo but for these there are varing degrees. I think 1000 fps is your thress hold.

I still have my old Interceptor OTV, but don't have any plates. I've thought about getting something newer, or getting plates, but just don't really see the need.

For SHTF you might consider going a different route. I know a guy who made it through a Syrian Army checkpoint wearing light armor. Not good for rifles, but can stop a pistol shot. One of the dummies even put his hand on his chest and didn't feel it. A measured measure of protection.
