Some dude at the Sac Valley range blew up an M1A last year. I think he was shooting hot handloads though. I believe the guy was ok but his rifle was in pieces.

I would seriously cry, if my M1A blew up like that...

My Scout had a pin break in the trigger mechanism - rendering it unable to shoot. Removing the trigger assembly, under tension with that broken pin? Ugly. Next in the middle of a rapid engagement COF I had the extractor break on me - again, unable to shoot. That repair was much more complicated, but less messy.

Bottom line - replace your parts with USGI parts when possible. The parts that SA tends to use aren't milspec.

wait, so there wasn't any conclusive answer to that incident? that's pretty crazy.

Ammo problem but SA is making low quality M 1 As ,ast and importen aftermarket parts.

Metal fatigue from what I read. The rifle was a well used one

Did Glock ever get this issue resolved with their prototype rifle?

The report in the article said the barrel (unmarked; origin unknown) came out of a bad heat lot.

Why are so many people so surprised??
Any firearm can Kaboom, even the invincible M14/M1A

We just hear about KB's happening with AR15's more often because the absolute number of AR15's out there is so much greater than that of M14's/M1A's.

I own an LRB M14SA and 3x AR15's and I have no delusions about any of them being invincible to KB's
