stevens 200 bolt action problem, please help

I bought a Stevens 200, took it to the range today for the second time, fired 27 shots in about an hour and a half. The last shot, I pulled the bolt back, inserted a round, pushed the bolt foreward, pushed down on the bolt handle to lock the round in the chamber, and it wouldn't close. I extracted the round, worked the bolt back and forth opened and closed it, seemed to work fine. So I loaded it, the bolt closed when I pushed the handle down, and fired. Worked like a charm. Loaded another shot, same thing happened, bolt wouldn't close to lock the round in, only this time I couldn't fix it, so I packed up the gun and left. I was shooting factory ammo, not reloads. I thought it was the extractor, but I think there may be something wrong with the rear baffle assembly. Can anyone help me out with some ideas for a quick fix or possibly make a diagnosis?

That's kind of tough. I think you'd be better off taking that bolt apart and inspecting. Assuming you didn't notice any obvious obstructions while attempting to lock the bolt forward.
Sorry bud, sometimes you just gotta dive in.

Check the bolt head retaining pin. If cracked or broken, it will block rotation of the bolt.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

I stripped the bolt and the rest of the gun, didn't notice anything wrong. BUT, when I put it back together it worked just fine. I thought stripping the bolt would be way more difficult than it actually was.

Congratulations on having the attitude of trying to figure this out yourself. It's much more rewarding than just taking it to a smith.
